Recreation

The Spanish Water and Jan Thiel offer thousand and one possibilities to have fun. We have made a small selection below. Ask your host couple Annemarie and Marcel for details during your stay. They will gladly take care of everything!

Diving

Curacao is at least as beautiful below the sea as on land. Divers come from all corners of the earth to admire the swaying corals, colorful tropical fish and fascinating shipwrecks. Attractive dive sites near La Maya Beach are the tugboat near Caracas Bay peninsula, where a sunken tugboat provides shelter to a rainbow of fish, and Jan Thiel Beach’s house reef, where you can explore a gorgeous, steep drop-off.

Water sports

A day on Curacao’s waters can be extremely inspiring. Whether you rent a sailing boat, make a sunset cruise with a party ship, embark on a day trip to the tiny island of Klein Curacao, go windsurfing, wakeboarding or simply swimming, these surroundings make it all very accessible and pleasant.

Hiking and mountain biking

On foot or on your bike, you will discover a different side of the island. In the nearby salt flats of Jan Thiel, the rough nature reveals itself in al her beauty. You will see lagoons, cliffs, tropical birds and many panoramic views. Full moon hiking trips are organized here regularly. Mountain bikers can enjoy the track where the world championship was held in 2006.

Dancing

Dancing and music are in the island’s very soul. Dance floors everywhere are moving to salsa, merengue, bachata, as well as European and American sounds. Live music can be enjoyed at many locations and international artists often visit Curacao to perform. Events to look forward to are the Curacao Salsa Tour, usually in August, and the Curacao North Sea Jazz Festival in September, which features the biggest names in the business.

Happy hours

Happy hours are an institution on Curacao. This is where everyone meets after work to drink, dance and be merry. The reduced bar prices add to the festive atmosphere. There are over 100(!) different happy hours weekly, so ask Annemarie and Marcel or consult a free nightlife guide like K-Pasa. (Available everywhere.)
